Cape Farewell (website), was created in 2001 "to evolve and amplify a creative language, communicating on an emotional level and on a human scale the urgency of the global climate challenge."
The project’s three principle objectives are to explore the science of climate change; to create and share a body of artistic responses to it; and to engage a public audience in understanding and responding to the climate change challenge. Its chief mechanism for inspiration is an annual expedition to different areas of the Arctic designed to expose artists, alongside scientists, educators, and journalists, to the processes of climate change.
The project has already enabled the production of a large portfolio of artwork – including theatre, dance, comedy and musical performances, books, films and videos, and traveling gallery/museum exhibitions – as well as architecture and crafts.
